The meaning of Hargeisa

On page 79 you mention that the name hargeisa literally means “the place where hide is sold”. In fact the name “hargeysa” is derived from the city harar and gey is an alernative meaning city. Due to Ethiopian invasion of Harar the history of Somalia and the region has been scattered and neglected, also the political instability has caused a negative effect on academic review of the region.

    I also heard that the name Hargeysa is an Oromo word for “dacar” (aloe family of cactus) because the area was full of the plant.
